A Dream Rooted in the Soil
The fascination turned into a lifelong calling during a school trip to the high altitude tea gardens. While others saw a factory, Thanuj saw an orchestra of human spirit and nature. He witnessed the synchronized rhythm of the tea pluckers, the vibrant greenery that seemed to touch the sky, and the meticulous art of rolling the leaves to unlock their hidden essence. He returned home not just with memories, but with a dream that his parents immediately recognized as his destiny.
Supported by his father, Thanuj spent his formative years immersed in the world of tea, visiting remote factories and learning the delicate science of moisture, elevation, and terroir. He chose to forgo a traditional college path to apprentice under the master tea makers of his homeland, preparing for a future where he would share this art with the world.
The Journey Across Oceans
Life, however, had a different timeline. In 2022, amidst a period of profound national upheaval, Thanuj found himself starting over in Canada. As an immigrant, he faced the cold winters and the weight of homesickness, missing the warmth of his family and the familiar hills of Sri Lanka.
During those long days of hard work in a new land, his only solace was the tea bags he had brought from home. But when that final bag was brewed, he discovered a void in the market. The tea he found on local shelves was often over processed, blended beyond recognition, or hidden behind an inaccessible price tag. He realized then that his dream hadn’t been lost it had simply been transplanted.
